There Were Three (A Poem For Good Friday)

There were three

Three crosses that day

Two were criminal

And One to whom some pray

There were three

Three whose blood stained Calvary’s hill

Two by force

And One by His own will

There were three

Three condemned that Friday

Two were guilty sinners

But there was One – for sins He came to pay

There were three – a trio crucified

Words by each were spoken

One asked for mercy – one mocked before his death

And one said, “it is finished” with His final breath

There were three

Three men that the Romans tried

Two remain unnamed

One, He is Jesus, Savior, God in flesh crucified

There were three

One received heaven

One received hell

One… He is risen – before Him Satan fell

Hallelujah, what a Savior

Yes, there were three

But the One who is Jesus

Now offers saving grace to you and me
