What’s A Gospel Disconnect? (Part 2)

gospel disconnect part 2

Deadly Gospel Disconnect #2: Knowing the Gospel Factually. Before reading today’s post, please take a minute and please read: “What’s A Gospel Disconnect”. This will help you better understand today’s post.

So, as you read in the last post, I am no electrician! But what if I was an electrician and what if I had electrical knowledge? What if I was a Master Electrician (Allen L, Tony L, Chad S, and Justin B….stop laughing!) and yet, I did not practice safety? Odd right? More than odd! Try…..STUPID!

Back to….what if I was a Master Electrician….  As an electrician I DO know electricity. I know it can harm or even kill me and others. I know how to practice safety, BUT, that knowledge is not connecting to my life. That is dangerous, deadly dangerous! Let’s connect the electricity danger to the gospel danger I am wanting us to get after.

We live in a day of gospel renewal. And let me be very clear: I AM SO VERY GRATEFUL FOR THIS! Thank God for the books, sermons, churches, and individual believers who are pursuing a better understanding of the gospel! Many today are seeking to be able to clearly communicate the gospel! YES! We NEED this! BUT, we also need a desire for the gospel to be MORE than something we simply know factually. As important as it is to know the gospel rightly, we need to grasp that simply knowing the gospel is not the end to which Christ died.

The Gospel is to be MORE than something we know. The gospel is to be something we live in the good of. Or as my friend Mike Bullmore preaches: The Functional Centrality Of The Gospel. The gospel is to function in our lives. So this begins to get at the heart behind why this blog was created. My concern, in the midst of all the gospel renewal, is it possible that we are not fully functioning in the good of the gospel? Or, another way to ask the question: is it possible that we are not living in the good of the gospel?

The Gospel is to be MORE than something we know. The gospel is to be something we live in the good of.

Now, if you are thinking, “I am not sure what you are talking about….” then hang with me! In the future, I hope to create posts that help us connect the extraordinary truth of the gospel to our everyday ordinary life. You see,  gospel truths are amazing! What Christ accomplished to save you and I is…. beyond amazing! And those truths are more than facts to know. Indeed, those truths call me and draw me to serve Christ.  Actually…. those truths call me to live my every breathe for Him!

Well, much more on that to come. For now, let’s be in prayer: God, I desire the glorious good news of the gospel to be more than head knowledge.  Help me to increasingly grow in allowing the gospel to function in my life.  To the glory of your name! Amen

  1. So right on and what I need to hear. Each day presents new life situations. I’m so thankful for the opportunity to continually learn and grow in the gospel of Jesus Christ in my life.

  2. The more I understand the gospel the more I see myself clearly and in turn I cling to the cross so much more and apply the beautiful truths of the gospel to my life. Thanks for the post.
