A Pastor’s Thoughts From Sunday

A lot happens before Trinity Community Church gathers for corporate worship at 10:00 am on Sundays. This past Sunday I did not have any preaching responsibilities. This means I was able to sleep in a little. When I do preach my day starts early with reviewing the sermon and making any final adjustments.

Alex Bowman preached from Isaiah 13-14 this past week, and I am sure his day started very early with the happy burden of preaching God’s Word. By the way, preaching from Isaiah’s judgement passages can be tricky! Thank you to all of you who regularly pray for the person who is seeking to handle God’s Word at your church each Sunday! Alex handled the Word with precision and conviction. I left Sunday rejoicing in God and meditating on how I might apply the appropriate challenges Alex brought to us through the preached word. It was an outstanding sermon, you can listen to it here. “The Sovereignty Of God Over The Nations”

By 8:00 am Trinity’s worship team, sound team, and tech team arrives at the building and begins to rehearse Sunday’s song set. This week’s songs included: Thank you God for saving me, Never once, Nothing but the blood, Glory Hallelujah, It is well, and Oh come to the altar. Once again, I was amazed by the mercy, faithfulness, and saving grace of God! What a gift it is to join in corporate singing with God’s people lifting our voices to Him who is worthy! If you are interested in checking out songs we like to see at Trinity, you can click here. Songs we sing.

Somewhere around 9:00 someone has come and begun to brew coffee. For Titusville locals – we have been brewing Pier 13 Coffee – If you haven’t tried their coffee, you should! Click here to check out Pier 13 Coffee on Facebook. They also serve the best chai tea! Amazing… while many are at home eating breakfast and getting the kids ready to head down to the building for worship, people have already begun to gather to serve us!

If you arrive early on Sunday, you would also observe one or two ladies gathered to work through the announcements, songs, exhortations, and the sermon to prepare for translating everything that happens from the microphone into ASL. What a gift and heart these ladies have for the deaf community! This is a ministry we prayerfully want to see God expand and grow at Trinity. If you know someone who is ASL – and they do not have a home church, please get them in contact with us!

At 9:15 the “Gathering Room” is a buzz of excited chatter. As people arrive early each Sunday to pray! And… pray they do! They love to chat, but that is not why they are there. This is Trinity’s weekly time for corporate prayer! This week we were exhorted to pray from Isaiah 12 and off we went praying the attributes of God and crying out to God to move in our midst. Does your church have a time of corporate prayer? If they do, I sure hope that you see the value in this time together! Go and join with the people of God and… pray! You can read a post about corporate prayer here: Prayer that is Plural

Do you belong to a local church that preaches and teaches the Gospel? If not, jump in! I am sure that there is a local church near you that would love to meet you this Sunday!
