Drilling Down
So, here is the question:
- Why were you created?
- Are we random accidents of the universe?
- I think not….. But if not….. why did God create man and woman in the first place?
- Was God lonely or needy?
- Maybe God had a “leaky love cup”?
God is…… God and so He is complete in every way in Himself. I have no category for the Almighty God of the universe to have any such need or loneliness!
Vessel
Last Sunday I had the opportunity to preach at the Vessel in Oviedo. Their pastor – Louis Tamburro – is a Gospel focused, hungry for Jesus, grateful for forgiveness, true, friend. Louis asked me to preach on: Living the gospel daily. I did so from Romans 12:1-2. You can listen to it here: http://www.vesselorlando.net. It was GREAT to be with you Vessel. Praying for you – may God continue to build a Gospel centered community at Vessel. Thanks for your warm welcome and encouragement!
Are you a Functional Universalist?
If you clicked on to this post, you may be thinking…. “Functional universalist….. what the heck is he talking about?!?”
Glad you asked!
Now Available….
Note: I did not write any of the below. All that follows is being used with permission. This post is my recommendation that you buy Brian Hedge’s new book.
In Active Spirituality, Brian Hedges allows us to read someone else’s mail. In a series of warm pastoral letters, written to a young Christian, he dives into the paradox of grace and effort in the life of faith. Is my Christian life about trying or trusting? Would I describe my relationship to God as running or resting? Is my life more characterized by grace or effort? Hedges makes it clear that it is both: trying and trusting, running and resting, dependence on grace and exerting disciplined effort. This balance is not about getting my doctrine right, but is key to living a healthy Christian life. So pull up a chair, settle in, and read over Chris’s shoulder as he tries to find a church, overcome discouragement, live a chaste life, and develop a plan for spiritual growth, all while learning to rest in the finished work of Jesus.
Jonah…. Fact of Fiction?
I teach a class called Growing Deeper in God’s Word. It is a fun little class with an amazing group of people who are hungry for growing in God’s Word! I leave each week thanking God for this class.
Christianity, Secularism….Doubt Part 3
Paul E. Miller puts it like this:
“I recently had a cynical moment during my morning prayer time. I was reflecting on some answers to the previous day’s prayer, and I felt a lingering distaste in my soul. All I’d done was pray, and God had acted. It seemed too easy. Trite. I realized I was hunting for something to doubt. I was also hunting for something to do. At bottom, I didn’t like grace. I wanted to be a player in the way God answered my request. In fact, at that moment I didn’t like God. I was more comfortable with His distance.”
Prayer – David Platt
The below sermon was given at T4G 2014. I was not able to attend the conference but in listening to David Platt’s sermon on prayer on my own it became a MUST post. I hope you will take the time to give it a listen.
Christianity, Secularism, and Doubt (part 2)
So, you have been sick. Your sickness has been going on for quite some time now. You continue to “deal with it” hoping it all goes away. Well, it hasn’t and it has finally brought you to that point. You break down and go see the Doctor. You know it’s bad when YOU go to the doctor! As a Christian, you take God at His Word and you believe God can heal you. You ask others to join with you and pray. And….. people do pray!

Preparing To Celebrate The Resurrection
Here are some quick takes to prepare your heart to celebrate the resurrection tomorrow.
He is Risen!
1.) “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?” John 11:25-26
Good Friday!
I hope that you will have a chance to go to a Good Friday service tonight! If you live in Brevard County (Florida) and you don’t have a home church, I would like to invite you to join me tonight at Sovereign Grace Church at 7:00 pm. We will be walking through the Last 7 Sayings Of Jesus On the Cross. I am certain it will be a God glorifying, Christ exalting evening together!
Christianity, Secularism, and…..Doubt
I begin this post with a simple premise: We have the ability to explain everything away!
Thomas Jefferson and the Bible:
Thomas Jefferson had some interesting beliefs. He believed in a God who creates, but after creating, God no longer intervenes in any way in the daily life of his creation.
More From Paul E. Miller
As we see our weaknesses more clearly, we begin to grasp our need for more grace.
